Costs dropped in opposition to law enforcement officials over ‘joke meme’ seen as indecent picture



Costs have been dropped in opposition to two law enforcement officials over the sending of a suspected indecent picture of a kid.

The Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) has discontinued its case in opposition to Greater Manchester Police (GMP) officers James Williams and Cameron Barker.

Each have been attributable to go on trial at Leeds Magistrates’ Court docket earlier this week after beforehand denying wrongdoing.

At their plea listening to in July, the court docket was instructed the officers didn’t imagine the picture was indecent and mentioned it was a meme despatched by Laptop Williams to his colleague’s cell phone as a joke.

Laptop Williams, 40, of Tyldesley, Wigan, pleaded not responsible to distributing a class C picture of a kid in March 2019.

Laptop Barker, 27, of Droylsden, Tameside, had denied possessing a class C picture.

A CPS spokeswoman mentioned: “The Crown Prosecution Service has an obligation to maintain all circumstances beneath fixed evaluate.

“Upon additional consideration of the proof on this case, we concluded our authorized check was not met and the case was stopped.”

The case was discontinued in September.

The officers have been suspended by GMP pending the end result of prison proceedings and any subsequent misconduct listening to.
