Queen leaves Buckingham Palace for remaining time as coffin carried to Westminster

The late Queen has left Buckingham Palace for one final historic time, in a solemn procession to her lying-in-state.

A gun carriage bearing her coffin travelled throughout central London to Westminster Hall, adopted by King Charles III, Princes William and Harry and Princess Anne, watched by crowds of hundreds, lots of them in tears.

The imperial state crown on a velvet cushion lay on high of the coffin, alongside a wreath of flowers.

The Band of the Scots Guards and the Band of the Grenadier Guards performed funeral marches all through the 38-minute procession, beginning with Beethoven’s Funeral March No 1.

The heavy steps of the guard of honour shaped by the King’s Guard and troops from the Queen’s Firm 1st Battalion Grenadier Guards in time with the heavy beat bolstered the solemnity of the event.

Simply three months after the nation celebrated her platinum jubilee, the Queen died six days in the past at Balmoral , aged 96. She is going to lie in state on the corridor till her funeral on Monday.

The King, his sons, his sister and brothers marched consistent with the the gun carriage of King’s Troop Royal Horse Artillery, which was draped in a royal normal. All had been in uniform besides forAndrew.

They had been adopted by Peter Phillips, Anne’s husband Vice Admiral Sir Tim Laurence, the Queen’s cousin the Duke of Gloucester and the Earl of Snowdon.

William stared straight forward as he processed straight behind his father the King, consistent with his place as the brand new inheritor to the throne.

Charles, in his Discipline Marshal uniform, held onto the top of his Discipline Marshal Baton, which was introduced to him by his mom when he grew to become Discipline Marshal in 2012.

Procession viewing areas open to the general public alongside the route had been full, and silence fell among the many thousands-strong crowd as a muffled drum draped in black was crushed at 75 paces per minute.

There have been 10 pallbearers, discovered from service equerries to the late Queen.

A detachment of the Life Guards, in addition to family cavalry and the family of the Queen, walked in entrance of the coffin.

After the procession had handed, the group exterior Buckingham Palace erupted into applause.

In a poignant image, the gun carriage of the King’s Troop Royal Horse Artillery was used for the coffins of the late Queen’s mom and father.


The crown glittered within the daylight because the crowds held up their telephones to seize the scenes.

At Horse Guards Parade, crowds of mourners, many in tears, applauded because the procession entered the huge ceremonial parade floor.

The George Gun Carriage was the one which carried King George VI from Sandringham Church to Wolferton Station after his dying in 1952 and was used within the funeral of the Queen Mom in 2002.

In a BBC documentary in 2018 about her coronation, the Queen amused viewers by manhandling the heavy crown, pulling it in the direction of her, turning it spherical and declaring: “That is what I do once I put on it.”

The Queen Consort, Catherine Princess of Wales, Meghan Duchess of Sussex and Sophie Countess of Wessex left Buckingham Palace in a cortege of automobiles heading for Westminster with police escort autos.
