Magnitude 5.9 quake hits northwest Turkey, inflicting panic

ANKARA, Turkey — A magnitude 5.9 earthquake hit a city in northwest Turkey early Wednesday, inflicting widespread panic however there was no rapid report of main injury, Turkey’s Catastrophe and Emergency Administration Presidency stated.

The earthquake was centered within the city of Golkaya, in Duzce province, some 200 kilometers (125 miles) east of Istanbul. It struck at 04:08 a.m. (01:08 GMT) and was felt in Istanbul, within the capital Ankara and different elements of the nation. No less than 35 aftershocks have been recorded.
